Tips on Searching 1. Full Record: A full-record search will find items in the bibliographic record. 2. Full Text: A full-text search will find items in both the bibliographic record and the full text. 3. Category/Genre: A Category/Genre search will find items that belong to the category you type in as your search term. For instance, type in “book chapters” and select Category/Genre from the pulldown menu to find all the chapters in books or monographs within the collection. 4. Boolean search: A search for “dog” OR “cat” will find records containing “dog” and also records containing “cat”, whereas a search for “dog” AND “cat” will find records containing both “dog” and “cat”. Mixed Boolean searches such as “Jane and Doe or John” or “Jane or Doe and John” are not supported. 5. Truncation: Right-truncated queries are supported. The query term “car*” finds all records containing the word “car”, or the word “cars”, or the word “carpet”, or any other word that starts with the string “car”. 6. Phrase searching: For phrase searching, use double quotes. For example, “with liberty and justice for all”. 7. Date searching: Enter a four-digit year. Wildcards are supported, e.g. “195*” for the 1950s.

Use Interview Transcripts In the RUcore record for each interview, there is a Table of Contents. The Table of Contents lists which transcript pages correlate to specific audio tapes. Page numbers in the Tables of Contents correlate to page numbers in the Page Number Display of the page-turner software. To read a transcript, or portion of a transcript, click on the “Read online” link. A new tab will open, displaying the first page of the transcript.
Navigate Through a Transcript To find a particular page in a transcript, you may use the Page Turn Arrows on either side of the Page Number Display. You may also go directly to a particular page by highlighting the page number in the Page Number Display and typing in the page number you wish to jump to. Then hit the Enter key on your computer keyboard to jump to the desired page. Page numbers on the transcript pages will not always correspond to the number in the Page Number Display/Table of Contents.
