Note(s)Adolphus Anthony (Doc) Cheatham (1905-1997) was an American trumpeter and leader active in Nashville, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, and Europe. From 1930 he played in big bands, but in later life always returned to small-group settings, which highlighted his particular talents. He toured widely in Europe and the U.S., as well as Japan, often playing with local musicians or swing-era colleagues.
