Note(s)Arthur Briggs was an African-American jazz trumpeter and bandleader who performed primarily in Europe throughout the 1920s through the 1960s. He formed two well-known bands, the Savoy Syncopators, which performed in Brussels (1922-1928) and the Orchestre Arthur Briggs and His Boys (Paris, 1929). Arthur Briggs' Savoy Syncopators' Orchestra recorded 64 dance band and jazz solo selections in Berlin during 1927. He also performed extensively with the Noble Sissle Orchestra in London. While living in Paris during the Nazi occupation, he was captured and imprisoned in a Nazi Concentration Camp but survived that ordeal and continued to perform in Europe. Ultimately, he became a music teacher and professor in France in 1964.
