Note(s)Ernest Lawrence (Ernie) Fields (1904-1997) was an American trombonist and bandleader. He grew up in Oklahoma and from the mid-1920s led a regional band that toured through the Southwest and Midwest. Performances in the East in 1934 yielded recording sessions for Vocalion. At various times, the band included many well-known musicians. In 1959 Fields lent his name to a series of recordings of simplified versions of jazz standards aimed at the teenage market. He retired in 1966.
