Note(s)Alfred Wesley (Al) Hall (1915-1988) was an American double bass player active in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Chicago, and New York. He performed and recorded with a number of prominent musicians through the 1930s and 1940s, beginning a career as a CBS radio staff musician in 1943. From 1946 he combined club dates with studio and Broadway theater work, and founded his own recording company, Wax, in 1946. In later years he performed with blues musicians Memphis Slim and Muddy Waters at Carnegie Hall, and in 1960 he toured America as an accompanist to the French pop singer Yves Montand and appeared with Eubie Blake at the Newport Jazz Festival. He continued touring throughout the 1970s and performed up until the time of his death.
