Note(s)Leonard Phillips (1907-1994), a trumpeter and good friend of legendary jazz musician Lester Young, was prominent in the 1920s and early 1930s before the Great Depression made it too difficult to earn a living playing music. In 1935 Phillips left the music business and relocated to Washington, DC where he remained until his death at the age of 86. Though he passed away before its publication, Phillips was a key contributor to the 2002 biography Lester Leaps In: The Life and Times of Lester Pres Young, written by Douglas Henry Daniels.
