Note(s)Samuel Sammy Price (1908-1992) was an alto saxophonist who later learned piano from Portia Pittman, daughter of African American spokesman and early civil rights leader Booker T. Washington. Price got his start in 1925 with the Alphone Trent Orchestra as a Charleston dancer but later formed his own group. Price's career took him several times to Europe and he recorded such albums as Midnight Boogie (1969) and Play it Again Sam (1983). One of Price's final performances was at the 1991 JVC Jazz Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
