Note(s)Andrew Blakeney was a New Orleans jazz trumpeter who led his own Dixie jazz bands and performed in the bands of many jazz legends, including King Oliver, Doc Cook, Les Hite, Lionel Hampton and Sonny Clay. Blakeney was born in Quitman, Mississippi in 1898 and died in California in 1992. Although known for Dixie-oriented jazz, he performed primarily in California, with stints in Chicago, Hawaii and on tour throughout the country. He was seldom recorded but enjoyed a long and respected career, playing into his 90s.
