NoteWoodrow Charles Thomas (Woody) Herman (1913-1987) was an American jazz bandleader, clarinetist, alto saxophonist and singer active in New Orleans, the West Coast, and New York. He was known for his expertise in assembling and sustaining bands of exceptional musicianship; Igor Stravinsky composed his Ebony Concerto (1946) for Herman's band.
